Japan Establishing Fund to Expand its Media Overseas

The Japanese government has decided to establish a fund called Contents Overseas Development Fund in order to promote Japanese production, especially anime and films, abroad. The project is to start this fall and its main financial source is going to be the Industrial Reform Organization that is due to be established in July.

The main objective of this project is to raise the percentage of revenues from abroad. They want to achieve this by increasing the amount of license acquisitions of Japanese domestic media production, and by taking part and investing in overseas production companies.

This fund is a part of the bigger plan to improve Japanese economy and promote various Japanese production overseas. Another goal of the Prime Minister, Asou Tarou, is to create 500,000 job positions in the area of soft culture – anime, manga, games, and related sectors.
