Top 10 Spring 09 Anime and Summer Expectations

Dengeki asked their readers what had been their favorite anime from the Spring season. You can see and compare the results with people’s expectations before the Spring season started.

There’s no surprise on the highest place, K-ON! dominates the ranking. That leisureliness and maipeisu of the characters, yet again the moe factors, and catchy music, this all must have appealed to many people, unless they hold a grudge against moe.

In the before-season expectations ranking, K-ON! ranked only #7. But even I must admit that I didn’t have any high expectations of it, yet I’m very glad that it turned out to be better than I thought it would.

#2 place gets Higashi no Eden. I didn’t watch it but it seems to have been an interesting anime with naked people. However, as far as I know, those weren’t pleasant sights. What’s interesting is that it scored very bad in the expectation rankings, getting #23 place.

3rd follows Saki, ecchi anime about mahjong. Though I think the ecchi part held more importance than mahjong part.

#4 is Fullmetal Alchemist. It ranked first in the expectations ranking but didn’t retain its position after the Spring season part.

#5 Sengoku Basara
#6 Dragonball Kai
#7 Valkyria Chronicles
#8 Basquash
#9 Asura Cryin’
#10 Cross Game

I don’t get one thing. Where the hell is my beloved Hayate no Gotoku!!? Don’t tell me it’s less popular than some Cross Game or Valkyria Chronicles. I just can’t believe that. It can’t be true…

And next comes the Summer season anime expectations ranking.

Spice and Wolf II

#1 – Spice and Wolf II (Ookami to Koushinryou II). I’m looking forward to this sequel too, as I have enjoyed the first season very much. Besides the characters, I liked that dickering at markets and stuff like that. It gave a very realistic feeling to the anime.

#2 – Umineko no Naku Koro ni. This stuff will be great if they manage to adapt it well into anime. I mean, the original script from visual novel is epic, but it’s a very hard task for the director to make it at least nearly as good as the visual novel. But still, I know I will enjoy Umineko no matter what. When I’ve finished writing this post, I will watch the episode #2.

#3 – Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Let’s see what the Desperate Teacher will despair from this time.

#4 – Bakemonogatari
#5 – CANAAN. Looks promising, judging from the first episode.
#6 – Taishou Yakyuu Musume. I was wondering, did baseball exist in the Taishou Era?
#7 – GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class
#8 – Kanamemo
#9 – Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
#10 – Umi Monogatari – Anata ga Itekureta Koto
