6th Annual Seiyuu Awards

Tomorrow, March 3, at 6:30 PM JST, the 6th Annual Seiyuu Awards Ceremony will be held. However, the results in all categories were already revealed yesterday on the official website of Seiyuu Awards. Much to my delight and according to my expectations, Yuuki Aoi has received the award for the best lead female. Having performed the roles of Madoka (Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica), Victorique (Gosick), Oshiroi Hana (Ben-To), Tooru (A-Channel), and others, her footprint in 2011 was large and striking. What she can do with her voice is something that nobody can imitate, thus she’s considered a prodigy by many.

In the male category, Hirata Hiroaki (Kaburagi Kotetsu in Tiger Bunny) has been awarded the prize for the lead role, while Miyano Mamoru (Okabe Rintarou – Steins;Gate, Kaneshiro Yuu – Ben-To) and Kimura Ryouhei (Nishimura Satoru – Natsume Yuujinchou San, Hasegawa Kodaka – Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai) have received the award for the supporting role. Katou Emiri (Kyuubey – Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, Kinoshita Hideyoshi – Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu Ni!, Mifune Ryuuko – Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko) has been selected for the supporting role award in the female category.

A nice gesture from the Seiyuu Awards commitee was that Kawakami Tomoko, who succumbed to cancer last year, has been awarded the Special Award.

Iguchi Yuka has been chosen for the Personality Award. Her weekly radio show Iguchi Yuka no Muuun is very funny and every time she appears somewhere, she kind of fires up the atmosphere.

The Overseas Fans’ Award goes to Sakurai Takahiro, whose prominent roles in 2011 include Yukiatsu in Ano Hana, and Masakaki in C. He is also well-known for having voiced Kururugi Suzaku from Code Geass.
